Leukaemia researcher

As a member of the Leukaemia Research Group at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), Barbara is investigating the genomics of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (B-ALL). This leukaemia is the most commonly diagnosed children’s cancer and is the leading cause of non-traumatic death in children. The researcher is working to understand the mechanisms that allow a high-risk B-ALL genomic subtype to survive and grow. The hope is that this knowledge will guide the development of more targeted therapies for this disease and provide better outcomes for these young blood cancer patients.
