Ben Doherty

Bondi, New South Wales

Journalist, foreign correspondent

Ben has excelled in two dream fields – playing professional AFL and working as a foreign correspondent. The three-time Walkley Award winner and Guardian journalist now wants to become a leading voice on the issue of forced migration – people fleeing their homelands because of political instability, climate change, natural disasters or population pressures. Ben wants to tell stories that will help Australians understand migration, humanise the people who have been displaced and become a global ambassador for the issues. To equip himself for this challenge, he is undertaking a Master of Science in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies at Oxford University, which leads the way in this subject.
