Optometrist, researcher, humanitarian
As an optometry student in Melbourne, Blanka provided eye care at a university-run health clinic for people on low incomes. This experience shaped her career and commitment to providing quality healthcare for all. Now based at the University of New South Wales’s School of Optometry and Vision Science, Blanka has established an eyecare clinic at the NSW Asylum Seeker Centre in Sydney’s Newtown. From this safe space, optometrists provide eye examinations free of charge and help new arrivals to build trust in the health system and access further care. Blanka is using her grant to expand her free service.
