Yarrie Bangura

Marrickville, New South Wales

Entrepreneur, role model

Yarrie’s carefree childhood was disrupted by civil war in her home country of Sierra Leone. After experiencing poverty and trauma for many years, Yarrie and her family were accepted by Australia to start their lives over. Her motivation for setting up an organic ginger beer business while studying international development at university is to make the most of the second chance she has been given. She wants to contribute to Australia by bringing this healthy, traditional African drink to the community. “We make it for special, social occasions. It’s refreshing, it’s a tonic and it’s delicious. I would like to employ people who are disadvantaged, especially those from a refugee background who might be struggling to find work.”
