Biologist, angler

A former fish biologist and now research adviser, Adrian wants to turn millions of recreational anglers into ‘citizen scientists’, helping manage fish stocks by encouraging sustainable fishing practices. He has invented a smartphone system that enables anglers to measure and record their catch without the need for measuring boards, scales or log books. Anglers can record and share their catch while gathering data crucial for the monitoring and protection of popular sports fish as well as endangered and at-risk species. “Recreational fishing in Australia faces a challenge to minimise its impact at a time when participation rates continue to grow. This system brings each angler closer to the science behind their catch while adding another dimension to their fishing experience.”
