Alon has achieved a rare feat in modern music by creating a new instrument. His AirSticks are audio-visual electronic wands that convert movement into music – giving us a glimpse into the future of music making. Since 2013, AirSticks have featured at Vivid Sydney, New York’s Met and on Triple J’s Like A Version. However, collaborative community use is Alon’s goal. The Monash University SensiLab researcher is now exploring the intuitive instrument’s potential to improve the wellbeing of people with limited mobility. By updating AirSticks’ software, Alon aims to enable aged care homes to independently use these instruments without the need for face-to-face training.
