New South Wales
Roboticist, entrepreneur

When his home-made interactive robot proved a hit with friends, Clive began to see its potential to help kids in hospital. From this came a tech start-up called ikkiworks. Its star is ikki - an intelligent companion robot that supports children through their health challenges. Low-cost and rugged, this penguin-shaped robot goes everywhere with the child, providing comfort, entertainment and a sense of responsibility. ikki also carries out clinical functions like taking a child's temperature and reminding them to take their medication. The relationship the child builds with ikki takes stress from parents and enables clinicians to gather data that can optimise treatment. This grant will help ikkiworks conduct a clinical trial. This platform technology has the capability to work across a variety of situations from childhood cancers to aged care, so this little penguin is only the start.
