Forensic scientist, DNA investigator

Based at the University of Canberra, Dennis is working at the cutting-edge of emerging DNA technology for forensic applications. He aims to offer a commercial test that will use crime scene DNA to determine a donor’s appearance, predicting externally visible characteristics of the donor, including ancestry initially, and then eye and hair colour. This service will help lead forensic investigators to refine their search, saving valuable police time and reducing the likelihood of wrongful convictions. As DNA markers for new characteristics are developed – for hair morphology, baldness and fingerprint patterns – these can also be added. “DNA has the potential to be a silent witness to crimes that might not otherwise be solved.”
