Elliot Duncan

Mawson Lakes, South Australia

Nanotechnology researcher

An early-career researcher at the University of South Australia, Elliot is interested in the emerging
field of nanotechnology. While nanomaterials are increasingly used in industrial processes, household consumables and clothing, research in the agricultural sector is limited. Elliot wants to perform novel experiments that establish whether engineered nanomaterials (ENM) are accumulated by Australian grain crop species and grain-derived food products. Through his research, he hopes to determine if ENMs could also have positive uses, such as the remediation of contaminated lands and improving nutrient availability to crops. “An increased understanding of any potential risks or benefits related to ENM exposure is critical and could assist in safeguarding the economic prosperity of Australia’s agricultural industries.”
