Social innovator, inclusive sportsman
After a long run on a hot day in Africa, James fainted and fell off a stool. Breaking his neck and becoming a quadriplegic exposed him to the significant barriers facing people with disabilities. His charity, Empower Golf, helps those with disabilities access and enjoy all the physical and psychological benefits of the most social of sports. Now an NDIS provider, Empower establishes sustainable inclusive golf facilities, funds adaptive equipment and, with volunteer help, delivers predominantly free clinics, lessons and support services nationally. With golf on track for Paralympic inclusion, James is hoping to bring the sport and other recreations to more Australians.
