Inspiring athlete, wheelchair racer

In 2012, Jonathan was a promising, elite gymnast, training to qualify for the Australian team. A devastating training accident saw him land awkwardly, breaking his neck. Losing all feeling and movement below his shoulders, he became a person with a C5 incomplete spinal cord injury and his dream to represent Australia vanished. But his life did not stop there. He picked up wheelchair racing after trying a myriad of different sports, and is now determined to finish what he started before his accident. He wants to represent his country in athletics at the next World Championships and the Paralympic Games. “I want to inspire other Australians who have had a setback in life not to give up. Anything is possible if you wholeheartedly believe in your dreams.”
