Reading advocate, communicator
Kate has been volunteering for years to eradicate illiteracy in Australian children. She has been working for the 20% of children who start school not ready to learn to read or write. She believes that reading from infancy should be widely encouraged – not just isolated to communities where there is an obvious need. Working with charity Paint the Town Red and Melbourne University’s Parent-Infant Research Institute, Kate will run a communications program that will educate everyone in the workplace – especially parents to be – of the importance of reading with children from birth. It will also focus on the prevention or early identification of postnatal depression.
