Physiotherapist, physical activity advocate

Research shows that girls lag behind boys in their movement skills and physical activity – and this gender gap widens during adolescence. Margarita wants to change that by undertaking research using sophisticated measurements to explore how balance, activity and other factors are related to movement skills in girls. This research will provide vital information to help therapists, parents, schools and coaches better design programs to promote balance and movement skills in girls – setting them up for success in physical activity and better long-term health. “With childhood obesity at an all-time high in Australia, promoting physical activity has never been more important. By completing this study, I will be able to make evidence-based recommendations that will help girls reach their potential.”
