Matinetsa Chakawa

Malak, Northern Territory

Community carer

Matinetsa and his family moved from Zimbabwe to Australia in 2007. He now lives in Darwin where he is a patient care assistant, working mainly with Indigenous patients with mental health and alcohol and other drugs (AOD) issues. Matinetsa’s AMP Tomorrow Fund grant paid for his Diploma in Mental Health and AOD tuition fees: “There are more and more patients affected by drug and alcohol issues every day in the Northern Territory but simply not enough staff to help. I have a great desire to learn more so I can help more people deal with their issues in everyday life.”
