This University of Queensland researcher aims to tackle problems of plastic pollution by developing sustainable packaging material from sugar cane waste. Nasim is trying to produce 100% bio-based single-use packaging materials using waste from the sugar production process. Sugar cane materials are green, biodegradable, and compostable, making them suitable for packaging food and use in automotive, aerospace and healthcare industries. Nasim’s composite can be safely disposed of in domestic compost bins and collected as kerbside rubbish. This grant will help her to produce a proof of concept to attract investment.
