Triathlete, Rio Paralympian

One night when Nic was in Year 12 at high school in Mackay, he collapsed. When he came to the next morning, he could not stand. A neurological disorder had made him a complete paraplegic overnight. It took Nic nine years to accept his disability. But when he first heard about paratriathlon, his passion for sport was re-ignited. Three years later, he competed at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, using a racing wheelchair to run and a handcycle to ride. Nic is using his grant to buy a new handcycle so he can compete at the next Paralympics. “My previous life ended and a whole new one started. That’s pretty cool – not many people get to live two lives.”
