Young Aboriginal leader

Rhett is a Mandandanji and Ngemba man and young Aboriginal leader who is working in one of the most challenging environments – a maximum security juvenile justice education centre in South West Sydney where many young Aboriginal people are incarcerated. As an Aboriginal Education Officer, Rhett wants to improve the lives of those in his care and his community by studying how Indigenous culture can be embedded into programing within schools and youth detention centres. “Through my life I have seen the effects of incarceration, resulting in my friends and family becoming institutionalised. I hope that through a combination of my life experience, work and this research can produce some effective strategies to lower the recidivism rates of my people in custody.”
