Medical research enabler
At 34, Robyn’s daughter Lucie lost her battle against brain cancer, which claims more young lives than any other cancer. Access to brain tissue is vital to understanding how these tumours grow, however, obtaining samples has been difficult as tissues were ‘hidden’ in collections across Australia. This is why Robyn founded Brain Cancer Biobanking Australia (BCBA) – bringing together experts in neurosurgery, oncology, pathology, law, ethics and scientific research. Operating from the University of Sydney, BCBA has developed an online hub and register that enables scientists to find and easily access tissue and gather data to power pioneering research.
