Ryan Clark

Beverley, South Australia

In October 2013, Ryan was set to fly to North Dakota to play college basketball. Then his family’s world collapsed when his mother suffered a stroke. The promising player decided to stay in Australia to provide financial and emotional support to his parents. His mother, who is now in a nursing home, urged him to follow his passion and take up the part scholarship in the US. The grant helped pay for Ryan’s living expenses and board at Lake Region College North Dakota so he could focus on studying, training and playing, and return home to visit his mother: “I’m so grateful my parents want me to have a go at my dream. This grant will give mum one less thing to worry about and help me to inspire more Aussie kids to play basketball.
