Shantelle Thompson

Thomastown, Victoria

Barkindji warrior, leader, wrestler

One of 17 children, Shantelle is a proud Barkindji woman, mother of three, teacher and world-class Brazilian jiu jitsu competitor. She also works with members of the Stolen Generation, providing support and mentoring. Now Shantelle wants to add elite wrestler to her impressive list of accolades. Although relatively new to the sport, she has already represented Australia in the sport. Her dream is to become a role model and complete her trauma counselling course: “I want to empower people to take control of their own lives and learn the skills to heal and grow. Competing for Australia is a way to show that it is possible to overcome adversity and rise to the top.”
