Skier, future Winter Paralympian

Some 3,800km from the nearest snowfields, Collie is not the most ideal place for an alpine skier. But Shaun is not one to let obstacles stand in his way. In 2009, aged 19, he picked up a virus while rafting in Bali. When his condition didn’t improve, he was put on an emergency flight to Perth. Shaun fought hard, but the virus damaged his optic nerve and left him with about 10% vision. He is now working towards competing at the 2018 Winter Paralympics: “I hope to motivate others to take that first step to do something they previously believed they may not have been capable of. There is always a way through when keeping a positive outlook.”
