Tamur Jafari

Guildford West, New South Wales

Boxer, role model

Born in Afghanistan, Tamur sought refuge with his family in Australia. He started boxing at age 13, and quickly developed a love of the sport. A natural talent, he trains every day after school more than two hours at Blacktown PCYC. In 2016, Tamur won three Golden Gloves in three separate weight divisions at the largest boxing competition in Australasia. This followed on from Golden Glove wins in 2014 and 2015. His goal is to be the first Australian to win Olympic gold in boxing. “As an Australian from a refugee background, not only will my achievements bring prestige to Australia, it will serve as an example for other young people from similar backgrounds to follow their dreams and contribute to our society.”
