Vicki Barry

Banksia Grove, Western Australia

Advance care planning advocate

For many, death is a taboo subject. But Vicki has been encouraging people to talk about death for decades. A near-fatal car accident at age 17, followed by her parents’ death, made her realise that we’re all in the “departure lounge” but some of us are better prepared than others. After many years of delivering end-of-life education, Vicki co-founded The Departure Lounge to provide a better model of care and approach to death and dying. The charity aims to offer information and set 90-day goal-setting challenges to help people prepare for their final journey. This grant will fund the development of a sustainable business model.
